Doctoral Candidate in the field of electrochemical energy storage (redox flow batteries)
The position is located in the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science, Espoo, Finland, and funded by the Academy of Finland.
This project develops aqueous redox flow battery technologies employing redox active organic materials, in collaboration with an organic chemistry group focusing on materials synthesis. The aim is to develop inexpensive and safe solutions for large scale energy storage.
The project includes electrochemical testing of the active materials as well as flow battery testing. The work will be a mixture of electrochemistry, physical chemistry and flow battery research, done in collaboration with an organic chemistry group.
Successful candidates must hold an excellent M.Sc. degree (or an equivalent) in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or related field at the time of the contract commencement.
The ideal candidate has hands on experience in electrochemistry of redox flow batteries. Good knowledge of organic synthesis, standard and advanced materials characterization techniques (NMR, IR, UV/Vis, XRD, SEM, TEM, Raman, scanning electrochemical microscopy) as well as finite element modeling is an advantage, and good command of English is a necessary prerequisite.
