The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) is inviting applications for a professorship in the field of Molecular Biology of Plants at the Department of Applied Genetics and Cell Biology to commence on 1st October 2020. The position is to be filled on the basis of a permanent employment contract in compliance with § 98 of the Universities Act 2002.

The applicant should have an outstanding record in research and be experienced in teaching in the field of molecular biology of plants with a focus on molecular genetics and developmental biology, in order to ensure continuity in the department and to further expand this research area. National and international networking and management experience in the academic field are key prerequisites. Furthermore, the applicant should have extensive experience in the planning and execution of competitive research projects in the fundamental and/or applied plant sciences and be skilled in acquiring national and international third-party funding. It is also an important task of this professorship to promote personnel development, in particular with regard to junior scientists and researchers.
The department is closely linked with the scientific initiatives of BOKU „Vienna Institute of Biotechnology“ at Campus Muthgasse and „Bioresources and Technologies“ at Campus Tulln, and cooperation is desired in the current fields of research within the scope of these activities. This professorship will thereby strengthen the department in the key fields of competence for BOKU „Biotechnology“, „Food, Nutrition and Health“ and „Renewable Raw Materials and Resource-oriented Technologies“. Teaching in bachelor and master study courses should encompass molecular biology, plant genetics and developmental biology for agricultural sciences, food and biotechnology and related studies encompassing the BOKU focus on the use of natural resources. A modern research infrastructure awaits the applicant in the department and at Campus Vienna Muthgasse, whereby the applicant is expected to contribute actively to their strategic expansion and improvement.
