The Faculty of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) invites applications for an appointment in the Institute of Computer Science as a
The Institute of Computer Science is looking for a researcher who is internationally recognized and has a proven track record in teaching, e.g., in one of the following fields:
Further topics of interest are
These fields are seen in the context of scientific computing, the analysis of big data volumes, and especially the supercomputer MOGON II. The successful candidate should be interested in cooperating with the “Center for Computational Science Mainz” (CSM) and the excellence project “M3ODEL: Mainz Institute of Multiscale Modeling“ in which innovative projects between natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science are promoted. Participation in and cooperation with joint research projects and initiatives of the Institute of Physics (e.g., PRISMA+, SFB TRR 146: Multiscale Simulation Methods for Soft Matter Systems or SFB TRR 165: Waves to Weather), the Institute of Biology (e.g., with the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB)), the neurosciences (e.g., with the German Resilience Center (DRZ)) and/or with the University Medicine at JGU (e.g., with the BMBF project MIRACUM) are highly desired.
It is expected that candidates are fully committed to participate in teaching activities for the bachelor of science study program and for the consecutive master study programs “Computer Science with Minor in Physics, Mathematics or Biology” and “Computer Science and Economics“. The programs are taught in German and English. German and English language proficiency is therefore required.
The professorship is funded by the Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track Programme for Junior Academics. Researchers early in their career are therefore especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must meet the general requirements according to public services law and the Higher Education Act of Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition to a doctoral degree, a first-rate research record must be proven.
The state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Johannes Gutenberg University support a concept of intensive tutoring and therefore expect a high level of attendance of lecturers. The Johannes Gutenberg University is committed to increasing the proportion of women in science and hence encourages women to apply.
Disabled persons with suitable qualifications will be considered preferentially.
Please send your application, including the data and documents necessary to ensure that the employment requirements are met (CV, grades and certificates, statement of previous teaching activities and publication list) in electronic form only and upload a single PDF file to firstname.lastname@example.org by 16.10.2019
