The Faculty of Adventure, Culinary Arts and Tourism at Thompson Rivers University invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in indigenous food, well-being and community development.
Funding is available for a Postdoctoral researcher to engage in community-based research in the Rural Livelihoods and Sustainable Communities Lab at Thompson Rivers University, British Columbia, Canada (https://courtneymason.sites.tru.ca).
The position is offered for a potential three-year period (2019-2022). It will provide opportunities for the researcher to engage with communities on projects in the following areas:
1) Parks and protected areas with a special focus on Banff National Park or newly created Indigenous Protected Areas in Canada;
2) Indigenous food systems and food security in rural Canada;
3) Tourism development in rural Indigenous communities in Canada.
A completed Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, strong community-based research skills and a demonstrated publication record are required. Further, the ability to take a leadership role in a multi-disciplinary research team, undergraduate and graduate student mentorship experience potential and strong interpersonal/communication skills will be considered. There is an expectation to mostly work on site in Kamloops, B.C.
The position will have a salary of $55,000-$60,000 per year (based on experience) plus full university benefits which include: Medical Services Plan, Extended Medical Services Plan, Dental Plan Insurance, Grouplife Insurance, Accident Death and Dismemberment Insurance, Short Term and Long Term Disability Benefits, and Pension Plan Enrolment. All research costs will also be covered and some relocation expenses will also be provided. This is a one-year position that may be renewed for two or three years based on the performance of the candidate.
