The University of Cologne is one of the largest and most research-intensive universities in Germany, offering a wide range of subjects. We are seeking to fill 2 PhD positions in the project ‘From icon to abstraction in sign language: how iconicity shapes the lexicon in the visual modality’ (DFG/AHRC funded). The project investigates iconicity as the basis for meaning in two sign languages (DGS and BSL) and gesture. The sites of this bilateral project are the University of Cologne, Germany (PI Pamela Perniss) and the University of Birmingham, UK (PI Gerardo Ortega). The PhD positions are based at the University of Cologne.
The positions are available from 15.05.2020 on a part-time basis (65%, according to DFG doctoral candidates positions). They are limited till 14.05.2023. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
