The Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) is currently seeking to recruit staff to the position of
Associate Professor in Economics (tenure track), starting on 1 September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a fixed-term period of five years.
The mission of JSBE is to conduct high-level research by national and international standards, and to offer quality degree education and executive education in business and economics. We contribute to the societal impact of the University of Jyväskylä by promoting university-based entrepreneurship and innovation activities.
Research in the field of economics at JSBE is profiled by empirical policy-relevant economics, especially in health economics, labour economics, economics of education, regional economics, macro-finance, and economic growth.
The person appointed to the open associate professorship will be expected to take care of his/her responsibilities in the discipline of economics, and especially health economics, as regards research and teaching, supervision of doctoral students, and participation in development of international research and educational cooperation.
The person appointed to the position is expected to conduct research in health economics. S/he is also expected to foster active cooperation with other researchers in the core field of physical activity, health and wellbeing within the University of Jyväskylä, to contribute to the realisation of the goals that the the discipline of economics has agreed.
In addition, the appointed person shall participate in the administrative duties of the discipline of economics and the acquisition of supplementary external research funding.

The position is filled as a fixed-term associate professorship of five years (tenure track), (see the tenure track model for professorship). An especially distinguished and unquestionably qualified person may exceptionally be appointed directly to the position of professor presuming there is no candidate available who is more competent and suitable candidate for the position. When an employee has been selected for a fixed-term associate professorship, an evaluation procedure is used regarding the employee’s merits for a professorship filled through an invitation procedure. The evaluation procedure shall begin before the end of the fixed-term contract. The evaluation procedure follows the same practices used in the expert evaluation procedure for filling a professorship.
The associate professor’s job-specific salary component is based on the job demands level 7 (3889,84 €/month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at Finnish universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to a maximum of 46.3 % of the job-specific salary component will be paid.
A trial period of six months shall apply.
