For strengthening its profile in ICT electronics at international level the University of Oulu announces the following tenure track Assistant Professor position for highly talented individuals who hold a doctoral degree and have excellent potential for a successful scientific career:
Assistant Professor position in the field of small power self-sufficient sensor systems
The emphasis is on research and understanding of different piezoelectric energy harvesting schemes and their efficiency in variety of operating conditions, and develop energy efficient sensors, electronics and kinetic energy harvesters. The assistant professor would also contribute to the research objectives in wireless ICT applications. Background in multiphysical modelling and non-linear mechanical systems is considered as an important tool for successful implementation of the position. Moreover, experience also in other kinetic energy harvesting schemes is appreciated.
The position will start as tenure track from December 1, 2018, or later according to mutual agreement with the successful applicant. The researchers appointed to a tenure track position may advance in their career through the tenure track process and be appointed to a Tenure Track Associate Professor position or a Permanent Assistant Professor.
The position is placed at the Microelectronics Research Unit (MIC, http://www.oulu.fi/microelectronics/), Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE, http://www.oulu.fi/itee). Microelectronics Research Unit is an internationally recognized, high excellence and quality unit with significant scientific impact in the fields of micro and nanosystem technologies. The education and research fields are materials, devices and their implementation technologies with special emphasis on electronics, photonics and telecommunication applications. The research is carried out in several multidisciplinary research groups in close co-operation with top research groups in Europe, Asia and USA and global and domestic industrial partners. Research projects are funded by the Academy of Finland, EU, and Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes). Scientific research of the Microelectronics Research Unit was evaluated 2013 in the international research assessment of the University of Oulu to the level 6 (max 6). The research unit is a dynamic and inspiring high-level research environment with up-to-date facilities and equipment.
In its field the Research Unit is globally highly ranked with research activities based on international collaborations. The partners of MIC include numerous institutes around the world including e.g. Czech Technical University (Prague), University of Maryland (USA), Josef Stefan Institute (Slovenia), National Taiwan University (Taiwan), Rice University (USA), Xi’an Jiaotong University (China). At the University of Oulu, the Research Unit and its leading experts are responsible for undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral education in the field. The Assistant Professors will join an international and multidisciplinary research community of researchers from multiple disciplines that collaborates on new digital solutions in sensing and interactions.
