An open PhD student position is available in the research group led by Professor Miika Nieminen at the Research Unit of Medical Imaging, Physics and Technology, University of Oulu, Finland. The call pertains to the Structure-specific MRI Characterization of Articular Cartilage in Osteoarthritis project. The aim of the project is developing novel MRI-derived technologies to directly characterize the structure and physical properties of articular cartilage in early osteoarthritis. This can be achieved through validation of developed methodology in experimental and clinical MRI systems.
A successful applicant must hold an MSc degree (or is about to graduate in near future) in physics, chemistry, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, medicine or related field. Applicant must fulfill the criteria for admission to the UniOGS (http://www.oulu.fi/uniogs/requirements_for_admission).
Additionally, experience in the following research areas is considered as an advantage:
A six-month trial period will be effective in the beginning of the up to 2-year contract.
The salary will be based on levels 2-4 of the demand level chart for university-level teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 46.3 % of the job-specific component).
The starting date should preferably be during the summer 2018. Starting at an earlier or later date can be considered. The funding is currently available for a minimum of two years.
