The Department of Economics, Accounting and Finance in Oulu Business School is responsible for delivering high quality research and teaching in its focus areas.
We are seeking applicants for a tenure track position in Applied Economics to join our faculty at the Department of Economics, Accounting and Finance (www.oulubusinessschool.fi/). The focus areas of this position are the applications of sophisticated econometric methods and economic theory in empirical research in economics and finance. A person appointed to a tenure track position is expected to conduct high-quality research in these focus areas, apply external funds for research projects, contribute to the development of teaching primarily in economics, and engage in administrative and university-level duties.
A person appointed to this position will be teaching applied economics courses at the undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral level, and supervise Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD theses in economics and finance. Teaching duties and load will be specified in a personal work plan.
The tenure track position is open to individuals who hold a doctoral degree in economics and have excellent potential for a successful scientific career. Based on the experience and competence, the successful applicant will be placed at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.
Job responsibilities and required qualifications
A qualified person is required to have a doctoral degree in economics and ability to teach, supervise and interact in English and operate in a modern university infrastructure within the frame of 1624 working hours/year as specified in the work plan. She/he should present evidence on excellent level of research with international recognition, and especially on the assistant level a great promise for a very high quality work. Active participation in the activities of the international scientific community is appreciated. Well executed administrative experience is appreciated for a position of the associate professorship. Career advancement on the tenure track is based on regular performance assessments that measure the candidate’s merits in all of these areas.
Required qualifications at each level of the tenure track system
The position of an Assistant Professor is for researchers who have recently finished their doctoral dissertation and are advancing towards a professional research career. The position is for a fixed term for five years. A continuation period may be granted as indicated in the University of Oulu Tenure Track guidelines. Only persons with a doctoral degree obtained less than ten years ago can be appointed to the position of an assistant professor. The criteria for an Assistant Professor are the following:
The position of an Associate Professor is initially a fixed term position for five years with possibility for extension after an evaluation. To be granted a continuation for the position requires meeting the criteria indicated in the University of Oulu Tenure Track guidelines. The selection criteria are the following:
The salary of an Assistant Professor will be based on levels 5-6, and the salary of an Associate Professor on levels 6-7 of the requirement level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of the Finnish universities. In addition to the basic salary of the appropriate tenure track level, supplementary salary bill be given for personal achievement and performance, the sum rising to a maximum of 50% of the basic salary level for the post. The full salary is approximately 3 500 – 4 500 euros per month for an assistant professor and 4 000 – 5 200 euros per month for an associate professor.
The successful candidate will receive full benefits provided by the University of Oulu to all its employees, including free time corresponding to holidays and free occupational health care services.
