Prostate Cancer Research Center (PCRC) at Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Tampere invites applications for the fixed-term position of a Software Engineer from 1 March, 2108 to 28 February, 2019.
The University of Tampere Prostate Cancer Research Center (PCRC) is a global leader in prostate cancer scientific research. The PCRC has over 60 employees or affiliates, and is part of BioMediTech, a joint research institute of the University of Tampere and the Tampere University of Technology devoted to excellence in translating basic science research to improve health care. Our highly international, collegial team includes experts in medicine, molecular biology, cellular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, image analysis and software engineering.
Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences conducts high standard research in the field of medicine and biotechnology and provides education, closely linked to the research of Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, at undergraduate and graduate levels. The strategic research fields of Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences cover stem cell –research; cardiovascular diseases, especially atherosclerosis; vaccine research; celiac disease research, cancer research, especially prostatic cancer and breast cancer; ageing, including mitochondrial diseases, proteomics and bioinformatics. The Faculty includes also FICAM, which develops and validates human-cell-based tissue/organ models, shares information on alternative methods and educates experts. In addition to infrastructure, the cross-disciplinary research environment at Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences also offers support in commercializing issues.

The Position: The Integrated Life Science Research (ILSR) database system is designed to support integrated clinical-molecular studies of cancer, including Geoprostate, a new personalized prostate cancer medicine system.
We are seeking a creative, capable software engineer to join the ILSR and Geoprostate system development team.
We hope that you have:
-excellent software development capability using a current language such as Java, C++, C#, or others,
-previous experience in object-oriented programming
-strong desire to develop top quality web GUI-based database applications
-excellent verbal and written communication skills
The salary will be based on the demand level chart for the other staff of Finnish Universities. The preliminary level of demand is 5–6. In addition to the basic salary, supplementary salary will be paid according to the personal performance, the sum rising to a maximum of 46,3 % of the basic salary level for the post.
Four-month trial period applies for the appointed person.
