Description of recruiting organization
Turku Centre for Biotechnology (www.btk.fi) is a joint department of University of Turku (www.utu.fi) and Åbo Akademi University, providing high-end technologies and expertise to academic and industrial researchers and a stimulating multidisciplinary and international research environment.
Turku Medical Bioinformatics Centre (https://elolab.utu.fi), led by Research Director Laura Elo, develops computational data analysis tools and mathematical modelling methods for biomedical research. The eventual goal is to improve diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of complex diseases, such as diabetes and cancer. A specific focus is on analysing and interpreting data generated by modern high-throughput biotechnologies, such as next-generation sequencing and mass-spectrometry proteomics, together with clinical data from e.g. electronic medical records.
Description of the position
The research will be conducted in the context of the ERC project “DynaOmics” under the supervision of Dr. Elo. The DynaOmics project focuses on longitudinal modelling of proteomics data with the ultimate goal to enable dynamic individualized diagnostics (http://cordis.europa.eu/project/rcn/203223_en.html). Additionally, the research involves participation in other national and international research projects ongoing at the Medical Bioinformatics Centre.
The project or postdoc researcher will work in a multidisciplinary team with backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, biology and medicine. He/She will also be tightly connected to the national and international collaborators, including a close connection to clinical and experimental teams.
The salary is in accordance with the universities’ salary system (for teaching and research personnel) level 2-4 for the project researcher where the working specific salary component is 2005,71-2500,06 €/month or level 5-6 for the postdoc researcher where the work specific salary component is 2893,95-3374,18 €/month. In addition, there is a share increase based on personal performance, which is at most 50 % of the base salary. There is a trial period of six months.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background with proven record in statistics. The candidate should hold a Master’s or PhD degree in a suitable discipline (e.g. statistics, mathematics). Good communication skills in English, both oral and written, are essential. Strong knowledge of biostatistics and proven, previous experience with R, Matlab or other statistical software is required.
